Pricing for OCC, at a US average of $38/ton in October, fell $30/ton, or 51% month-over-month from September’s $77/ton average. November will be the fourth straight month for declining OCC pricing. In four months, pricing has plummeted by 70% since July, when OCC averaged $126/ton. Market related downtime at major Container-board mills continues throughout November, with more mills adding “inventory-adjustment” downtime this month. Mills are stuffed with inventory. We are hoping the first quarter of 2023 brings steady movement and an increase in pricing. On a positive note, the SOW market has remained strong into November.
